HOW TO FRAME YOUR OWN PICTURES

There is nothing more satisfying than finishing a work of art and seeing it in a frame, but have you ever experienced sticker shock after you get the bill? If you are preparing for an exhibition, it is not difficult or uncommon to spend all your potential profits on picture framing. The benefits of framing your own work outweigh the convenience of hiring a picture framer. Self-framing enables you to control the entire process from the presentation and quality of your materials to, most importantly, the cost. Picture framing can be viewed as an artistic endeavor that will enhance our work. It is a financially prudent one as well.  
In this hands-on course, we will cover: 
  • Equipment and tools 
  • Choosing the best frame for your work 
  • Framing oil paintings on canvas + protecting canvases from dust, dirt, and bugs 
  • Mounting oil paintings to a rigid support 
  • The importance of matting and glazing works on paper 
  • Measuring and cutting mats 
  • Types of mats and using fabrics to enhance them 
  • Assembly and finishing with backing paper and wire
